Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi held a key meeting on Friday with leaders of the Assam Congress to outline the party’s strategy for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections in the state.
This marks the first interaction between the central leadership and the Assam unit since Gaurav Gogoi took over as the new state Congress president, signaling a renewed focus on organizational strengthening and election preparedness.
Also in attendance at the meeting, held at the newly inaugurated Indira Bhawan party headquarters, were AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Jitendra Singh, the Congress General Secretary in charge of Assam.
Rahul Gandhi shared photos from the gathering on Facebook, noting, “Today, under the leadership of Hon’ble President Mallikarjun Kharge ji, I met with the newly formed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee members at the Congress Headquarters, Indira Bhavan.”
The meeting is part of a broader initiative by the Congress leadership to energize state units ahead of crucial elections across the country.
