Seattle, July 6 (ABN News):
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has reaffirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to significant changes in the company’s workforce, particularly reducing the number of employees in roles that are increasingly being automated.

In an exclusive interview with CNBC on Monday, Jassy stated, “There will be fewer people doing some of the jobs that the technology actually starts to automate.” This statement aligns with the warning he delivered in a company-wide memo to Amazon’s 1.5 million employees last month.

Dated June 17, the internal memo outlined Amazon’s long-term strategy to integrate AI into its core operations, highlighting that the widespread adoption of this technology would lead to greater efficiency — but also a leaner corporate structure.

“We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs,” Jassy wrote.
“This will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains.”

The CEO did note, however, that while certain job roles will become obsolete, others will emerge. Amazon is expected to focus on retraining and reassigning talent where possible, particularly into AI development, machine learning, and other technology-forward roles.

Amazon is among several global tech giants ramping up investments in AI, aiming to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market. However, the growing presence of automation continues to spark debates around job security and the ethical implications of AI in the workplace.

As of now, Amazon has not released specific figures on how many jobs may be affected, but industry analysts believe that changes could unfold gradually over the next few years.
