Earlier this year, OnePlus made waves by announcing it had no plans to release any foldable smartphones in the near future. In contrast, its sister brand Oppo launched the Find N5—successor to the Find N3, which is sold globally as the OnePlus Open. Interestingly, Oppo did not unveil a clamshell-style foldable alongside the Find N5, sparking speculation that it had paused its foldable phone development altogether. However, that theory has been cast into doubt thanks to newly leaked schematics suggesting a new clamshell foldable may be on the way.
Tech publication XpertPick recently shared alleged schematics of the Oppo Find N5 Flip, sourced from a filing on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website. The images include both 3D CAD renders and blueprint-style schematics, showing a design that appears to build on the existing Find N3 Flip model—with notable changes.
At first glance, the Oppo Find N5 Flip maintains the familiar clamshell form factor, but there’s a noticeable difference: the camera layout. Instead of the circular module seen on the Find N3 Flip, the new renders show a vertically aligned triple-camera setup, arranged in a strip down one side.
This redesign seems to free up space for a larger cover display, aligning with the recent trend toward bigger external screens on foldables. The display stretches across most of the clamshell’s front, potentially enhancing usability without needing to open the device. Another familiar feature returns: the three-stage alert slider, which was also present on the previous model.
That said, it’s important to remember that a patent filing doesn’t necessarily confirm that a product is on the way. Many manufacturers—Samsung and Apple included—routinely file designs that never make it to market. While Oppo could indeed be preparing a new foldable, we’ll need to wait for official teasers or announcements to be sure.
